From Monday 12 September to Friday 23 September 2011, the A354 between Dorchester and Weymouth will be closed to allow Dorset County Council to carry out essential resurfacing works on the Ridgeway.

The A354 between Dorchester and Weymouth will be closed for 10 nights next month to allow Dorset County Council to carry out essential resurfacing works on the Ridgeway.
Between Monday 12 September and Friday 23 September 2011, the A354 Dorchester Road/Weymouth Relief Road will be closed between the Stadium Roundabout and the Jurassic Roundabout between 7pm and 6am on week nights. The road will be open over the weekend of 17-18 September.
While the road is temporarily closed, the diversion route for southbound traffic will be signed from the Stadium Roundabout onto the A35 eastbound, taking the A352 to the Warmwell Cross Roundabout and the A353 via Preston to the Bincombe Bumps Roundabout, then taking the second exit towards the Jurassic Roundabout at the bottom of the relief road. The reverse route applies in the northbound direction.
Local residents will be able to cross the A354 at Monkton Park for access to homes via the local side roads. Emergency vehicles will be able to travel through the work site.
From 6:30pm today drivers will be unable to use Littlemoor Road as a through route until 7am on Monday 2 August.
Provisions will be made so that pedestrians and cyclists can pass through the works area.
Littlemoor Road will be severed near Gould’s Garden Centre for essential drainage works to take place where Littlemoor Road crosses the path of the existing road (circled in the picture above).
The garden centre and other businesses on Littlemoor Road will be open as usual.
Residents wishing to access the garden centre will have to approach it from the Preston direction and people wishing to visit Somerfield and neighbouring businesses will need to approach it from the Dorchester Road end of Littlemoor Road.
Drivers will be unable to use Littlemoor Road as a through route between 6.30pm on Friday 30 July and 7am on Monday 2 August.

Work is continuing on the Ridgeway bridge. This photo shows some of the final topsoil placed on the eastern approach to the bridge.
This area and the sides of the bridge will be planted with trees and scrub, which is why the topsoil here is much thicker than the Ridgeway road cuttings – which have a thinner layer of topsoil to suit wildflower establishment.
The western Ridgeway bridge approach can’t be completed until traffic is switched from the A354 onto the new relief road, this is because the bridge approach will be in what is now the main carriageway.
Pedestrians, cyclists and horses can still use the paths and bridleways in the area by going along the signposted South West Coast Path diversion, which is also the diversion for the Jubilee Trail.
From Monday 1 March, the temporary path around the Manor Roundabout works will be closed. Pedestrians will be directed onto the west side of Dorchester Road and through the existing Manor subway.
Walkers approaching from the town centre are being asked to cross the road at Morrison’s before they reach the roundabout, and walkers approaching from Wey Valley School are urged to cross at the pelican crossing near Radipole Lane.
The temporary diversion road on the A354 at Ridgeway Hill will be open on Monday.
For safety reasons the 40mph limit currently in place on Ridgeway Hill is being extended through the diversion to Stadium Roundabout, in Dorchester.

From today there is a new 20mph speed limit on the temporary Littlemoor diversionary road – it was previously 30mph.
The new speed limit has been put in place following concerns about speeding from local residents, and following the opening of the earthworks haul route across the diversionary road.
