Hedge cutting and rumours!

You may have noticed hedges being cut back or removed along one side of the A354 – this is in preparation for the construction of the relief road cycleway early next year.  The work is done at this time of year to avoid the bird nesting season.

Some hedges are being removed because they are directly in the line of the cycleway, others are being trimmed back as they would otherwise obstruct cyclists.  Specialist contractors are being used for the work.

New hedges will be planted alongside the completed cycleway.

Oh, and – contrary to rumours – the lone house on that side of the road is not being demolished!

could you tell me whats going on along the littlemoor road opposite the garden centre. could you tell me where i can view the plans of the work being carried out.

    • Weymouth Relief Road Says:

      Hi Ron,

Opposite the garden centre the earthworks operation has started to shape the new Littlemoor Road, which is part of the scheme.

The current balancing pond in that area is also being extended.

The alignment of the Littlemoor Road improvements can be seen on the inside of the relief road leaflet.

Can anyone enlighten me what the long field opposite the house is being cleared for?
It looks as thought it may be for a temporary diversion of the main road while the new road is integrated into the existing route?

Great work on all of the route and I look forward to the day it is opened!

I think it’s great that a cycleway / footpath is being constructed between Weymouth & Dorchester as part of the relief road.
However, I can find nothing about the design or layout of this cycleway on DCC website and it is not included on the published plan of the relief road.

Where can I find out more information about the new cycleway?

Thanks for the info. We were wondering what was happening and had heard the rumour that the house was to be demolished though we found it difficult to believe. Our curiosity is now satisfied.

“May have noticed”? Spent an hour in the queue trying to get to Dorchester last week!
