Keep on truckin’

Earthworks - Walters vehicles (large version)

Thanks to the recent warmer weather, the ground has dried out and the major earthworks have restarted.

These two dumpers are transporting chalk from the Ridgeway cuttings down to the south of the scheme, where it will be used as backfill for the bridge structures and as the first layer of the road surface.

All the subsoil, chalk and stone excavated on site is reused elsewhere as fill or drainage material.

To complete the major earthworks as quickly as possible before the summer holiday season, the planning authority has granted a temporary extension of working hours to allow weekend working during April and May – but this doesn’t include May bank holiday weekends.
